Introduction
I am a hairdresser based in Canada and as such, I have a lot of experience with various companies that offer hair products. These companies are based in both Canada and elsewhere.
Although in my line of work, I have used almost all the different hair products available at various hair companies both online and in physical stores, I am particularly partial towards hair extensions. I have used them myself and have also installed them on several clients’ heads.
A little while ago, I had a customer who wanted me to install hair extensions for her. My customer wanted tape ins and she can afford them, so let’s go for it.
My customers trust me to purchase the extension for them as I have more experience with this and it saves them the hassle.
So, I wanted to buy hair extensions, but instead of going for the hair companies I usually purchase from, I wanted to try out a new company. Preferably one that was based in Canada, as the international ones are really not good for the budget because of duty fees and high shipping fees.
A quick search on Google for hair extension companies in Canada introduced me to Bombay Hair. I went on to their website and everything looked quite promising.
So, I decided why not try them out this time? And that’s precisely what I did. Read on to find out more about my experience with Bombay Hair.
Please keep in mind that this review is about my general experience shopping hair extensions from Bombay Hair.

A Bit About the Company Bombay Hair
Bombay Hair, as the name suggests, is a hair product company that specializes in hair extensions. They have a strong presence on social media platforms. They actively respond to queries or feedback from their followers.
Bombay Hair offers many different hair products, but hair extensions are definitely their main highlights. They have clip in hair extensions, as well as tape in, keratin tip, I- tip, and weave hair extensions. Apart from this they also offer hair styling products such as hair straighteners, curling irons, and hair accessories.
Another thing I liked about Bombay Hair is that they ship internationally. Of course, this may come with duty tax and longer shipping times, but it is still a good option for those who don’t have a good local hair extension company.
One thing that I really appreciate with Bombay Hair is that they have a shipping facility in Canada. So in short, it’s fine that they advertise their business in Canada if they actually ship from Canada. Too many hair extensions retailers will advertise heavily in Canada and not clearly inform you that you will have to pay duty tax because they ship from elsewhere.
I was slapped with a whopping 50% duty tax on Glam Seamless and 20% duty tax with Luxy Hair. Even worse, I was misled by Clip Hair Canada. As you’d imagine, with a name like Clip Hair Canada, the fair assumption is that it’s a Canadian company. But it isn’t. It was a UK company shipping from the UK… and they are pretending to be Canadian.
Therefore, the fact that Bombay Hair ships from Canada & advertise to Canadians is totally fine. My experience began positively since they advertise to countries where they physically operate.
Bombay Hair Online Reviews
Before I buy hair extensions from their website, I wanted to see what others had to say about the company. Well, I found quite a few reviews both on various blogs and also on several YouTube channels. Most of these were positive reviews. And the reviews on their website were mostly positive as well.
However, I noticed a very disappointing thing from Bombay Hair. They have their employees do fake customer testimonial videos.
I was very surprised to see a Bombay Hair’s employee do a video “review” of the product. That video is posted by “Missy Chrissy”. I noticed one of her comments in a different video where she’s giving her Bombay Hair email address to someone.
But this “Miss Chrissy”, who made very clear in the comment section of a different video that she’s an employee of Bombay Hair, actually posted a video review where she reviews Bombay Hair… and she isn’t saying that she’s a Bombay Hair employee in the video. Instead, she pretends the video is honest and not sponsored. This isn’t true, she’s a Bombay Hair employee… so I can’t believe that this “review” is honest. Not to mention the video description gives you exclusive discounts to encourage you from buying from Bombay Hair. Not only is this dishonest from Bombay Hair, but it may actually be illegal.
When you look at her YouTube channel, you will see she did a video “reviewing” Bombay Hair. In that video, she pretends to be a satisfied customer.
I’m not the only one who noticed this.
If I knew about this, I wouldn’t have purchased from this company. But it was too late.
Another thing I found a bit strange is that the company has lot of positive reviews on their website, but their BBB page has many bad reviews.
Their BBB pages had a few complaints that went unanswered.
Website
As for the website, the company has a really nice website. It’s really easy to use and it has plenty of beautiful pictures. The pictures immediately catch your eye and attract you. I found the website to be quite secure. They had all the necessary SSL certificates , so you can shop with the confidence that your information will be safe.
Apart from this, all the products and other information are neatly sorted into sections so that you can easily find what you are looking for. There are plenty of high quality images of the products, but the only drawback was that the product descriptions provided weren’t as detailed as I would have liked them to be. All online stores, not just hair companies, I feel should really pay a lot of attention to this aspect.
When a customer is purchasing anything without actually seeing the product physically, they should at least be given all the information so that they can make a decision about purchasing with confidence.
Product Range and Pricing
This hair company offers different types of hair extensions on their website. These include the usual clip in hair extensions, which are usually a best-seller on every hair extension website and are a personal favorite for me too.
Apart from this, they also offer hair extensions that you need to get installed by a certified hairdresser i.e. the semi-permanent hair extensions. In this category, there was tape in extensions, keratin tip extensions, I-tip extensions, and weave in extensions.
As far as the prices are concerned, I found them to be average.
They are not too expensive to the point where you can’t afford them, such as Glam Seamless and Bellami Hair. But they are also not too cheap to the point you’re skeptical such as eBay and Alixpress (chinese retailers).
The prices were more or less consistent with some other hair companies I had checked out but were significantly cheaper than the more mainstream or popular hair brands.
For example, the price for clip in extensions, 18 inches long and 125 grams in weight, was USD 130. There are some websites though that offer even cheaper prices. I couldn’t really be sure about the quality they would be in. With this price range, I had a degree of confidence that a standard of quality will be maintained.
This brings me to my next point. Bombay Hair made the claim that they use purely virgin hair in their hair extensions. Virgin hair means that the hair used while making the hair extensions have not been chemically treated in any way.
I find that hard to believe considering that the company had all sorts of colors available in hair extensions on their website.
These included rare shades like auburn or ombre. I don’t see how these shades could be obtained using virgin hair. As far as I know, no one has naturally ombre hair. To get that shade, the hair would have required chemical dyes at the very least. So, after that, they would no longer be virgin hair.
In short, Bombay Hair are not made with virgin hair as advertised on their website. Despite their product description claiming that their extensions are made of virgin hair, this is untrue. I mean let’s be honest, have you ever seen someone with naturally ombre hair? What about purple hair? Of course you haven’t, because it’s impossible. So selling extensions in these colors and pretend that they are “virgin” is a false statement. Do you want to read more about my thoughts on the quality of the hair extensions offered by Bombay Hair? My Purchases
I purchased tape-in hair extensions from Bombay Hair because that is what I was looking for at the moment.
My customer had already specified the shade she wanted, but I had to decide just how many to get. I was looking for blonde tape in extensions. Finding them was easy, but the weight was another issue. In general, one set of hair extensions usually weighs somewhere around 40 grams to 50 grams. At least, this has been my experience with most hair extension retailers. And 1 set of tape in extensions is never enough for a full head.
On the website, you can easily find the product you need by using the search bar if you know the name of the product you are looking for. If you don’t have that then you can easily use the filters available to narrow down your search by putting in your requirements and then finding the right product for yourself from the search results. This can help narrow down the search and make it easier for everyone to find the product they need without having to go through all the products. That would be really hard since Bombay Hair has a very extensive product range on their website.
As a reminder, I purchased the extensions with my own money. I don’t believe at all in any sponsored reviews. I’m saying this because I believe Bombay Hair is sponsoring a lot of positive blog reviews and YouTube reviews. In order for a review to be legitimate, it must be reviewed by somebody who has purchased the extensions with their own money and therefore will not have any financial gain in exchange for reviewing the product or the company. This way they can give their unbiased opinion.
The buying and payment procedures were pretty much standard. Just add the products to your cart, add your personal information, and checkout. For payment, they have the usual options i.e. pay by card or through PayPal.
I received my order very late. It was delivered by UPS and it took 9 days. They ship from Richmond, BC. I don’t know why shipping was that long. But hey, at least they ship from Canada as advertised! Because sometimes, you get nasty surprises when buying online, just like when I bought from Clip Hair Canada.
Regardless, once I got the extensions, I must say that Bombay Hair has the best package I have ever seen from a hair extension company and that’s saying a lot considering how many packages I have received from different hair companies.
As you can see in the picture, it’s a cute, small pink box made with a good quality material. The brand name mentioned on the hair extensions’ box was the same as the name of the company i.e. Bombay Hair. The hair extensions inside were neatly coiled to keep them from getting tangled up.
The hair extensions were of a satisfactory quality as well. In short, I had a somewhat satisfactory experience with Bombay Hair and if you wish to read more about my in-depth review of the actual hair extensions click here.
Shipping
Now, as far as the shipping is concerned, it took 9 days in my case to get my order from Bombay Hair. This is considerably longer than what I’m used to from other companies. Especially considering that I am based in Canada and Bombay Hair also ships from Canada (Richmond, BC).
I find 9 days to be extremely long for shipping within the country. I usually receive my orders from other hair companies within 3 to 4 days. Add to this the fact that there were shipping fees too, makes matters worse. It’s not as if shipping was free or else the long wait might have been a small compromise to make.
The parcel was delivered by UPS. This is the default shipping provider for Bombay Hair, I assume, because there was no option on the website to choose the courier service. While I have nothing against UPS, I still feel that customers should have the choice to choose the courier service they prefer. Or at least opt for a courier service that doesn’t take this long to deliver orders. 9 days is just too much! I have experienced some companies that deliver packages in literally just one or two days even. Honestly, UPS is always kind of a gamble here in Canada. You may get your order in 1 day, or it may take 10 days. You never know!
Canada Post is the best in Canada, even if their employees go on strike every couple of years!
In short, yes you will get the order you paid for. Bombay Hair isn’t a scam that will keep your money and not ship you anything. You may be surprised that this still exist right? Well, it does! I was literally scammed by Hair Extension Sale. And by literally, I mean LITERALLY. Yep! You read this right, hair extension sale took my money and didn’t ship anything! I had to open a PayPal case. Anyway, for the moment being, let’s keep talking about Bombay Hair.
Return Policy
Bombay Hair does have a return policy which is pretty much standard. Nothing exceptional or overly generous like some other hair companies I have seen.
They have different policies for different products, but as far as hair extensions are concerned, the return period is 14 days from receiving the order and the products must be returned in the same condition as they were received in. In other words, the package must be unopened, and the hair extensions shouldn’t be used or modified in any way.
The company will refund your money using the same mode of payment as the one you opted for while making the purchase.
But they don’t-refund the shipping charges, so if you aren’t happy with what you received, you will lose out on the shipping fees at the very least. That’s why I love Canada Hair, because all shipping fees are paid by them even if you return your order. In the case of international shipping, the company will not refund the duty fees either. If you want to get the products you bought returned, then all you need to do is get in touch with the company through email and request a refund.
Customer Support
Good customer support, I feel, is one of the biggest factors in building trust between customers and companies, especially for online stores.
In this regard, Bombay Hair’s performance was horrible. Although the company offers phone support (which is something rare in e-commerces), they blatantly ignored me when I complained about the tape ins not being sticky enough. I sent an email complaining that the tape ins they sent me didn’t stick well at all, and I did receive an automatic reply from Bombay Hair confirming that they received my email. They never replied to me. As of writing this article, it’s now been over a month. So it’s safe to say that the company simply decided to ignore me because they don’t want to answer customers’ complaints.
Perhaps I could have called them or sent a message via Facebook, taking into account they seem to be quite active on social media. Regardless, I already found a solution to the tape ins not sticking well so I didn’t bother contacting them. Also, I shouldn’t be harassing a company to get customer support.
Honestly, I find this to be very unfortunate, since it seems that ignoring customers is a pattern in this company. Here are examples:
I’d like to re-emphasis how important a phone number is. Many online companies don’t offer phone support, such as Canada Hair and Luxy Hair. But Bombay Hair does, and this is amazing. But since they ignored me when I complained about the extensions I received, I’ll have to give them 1-star for customer service.
Final Verdict
The tape in extensions I got were really average. The adhesive tapes didn’t stick well. There were also some problems with the overall hair quality.
I have talked about that in detail in the review for Bombay Hair tape in hair extensions. However, despite that, the company performed in a somewhat satisfactory way in my opinion (despite ignoring me when I complained about the adhesiveness of the tape ins I received).
There are quite a few good things about Bombay Hair.
As far as the hair quality is concerned, that was satisfactory but probably not the best. In the price department, they are average but considering that they ship locally, and you can save on duty, it makes them an attractive option.
Other positive aspects of Bombay Hair is that they ship internationally and provide phone support.
But it is important to keep in mind that there are also a few negative points about Bombay Hair extensions before you make a final decision about purchasing their hair extensions.
The drawbacks include the fact that the hair used in the hair extensions tend to become dry after being exposed to heat. This is unavoidable if you want to use any hair styling tools on the hair extensions. As reviewed by other customers on Bombay Hair’s BBB page, the extensions become dry after being exposed to heat.
The other drawback is their questionable product description in terms of hair quality. They claim that their extensions are made of virgin hair, and that is untrue.
Along with this, the hair was also shedding a lot more than what I have normally experienced with hair extensions.

So, basically, I had a somewhat satisfactory experience with Bombay Hair, but I wouldn’t buy from them again. Bombay Hair extensions are okay, but definitely not the best.
But these are just my opinions. I would also like to know your opinions about Bombay Hair. I am so glad that someone is calling them out about the “virgin” hair thing. Thats plain false advertisement. the hair is no where close to be virgin. I feel that I got scammed, because I was no naive to beleive the virgin hair was this cheap. My hairdresser was so furious and felt bad for all the other customer that think are bying virgin hair at a low price 🙁

Not really worth the money if you’re looking to wear hair extensions every day. When you first receive the hair it feels soft and lush then after 3 months, it starts to shed like crazy and stay matted up, even when I stuck to the rules by washing it less often, only using non sulfate shampoos and conditioners, using less heat on the hair. It still ends up being crap after 3 months.

I just purchased my third set of Bombay Hair lmost 4 weeks ago, within 2-3 weeks it started looking like a bird’s nest. With my first box I did feel like the hair was drier than I expected. Then when I got my second box, I felt the same way… the reason why I ordered a third box was because I was almost afraid to try something else not sure if it would be worse. But I must say within no time the hair starts to shed, become sparse and looks pretty dry, this is my opinion,

This company sells horrible curling irons. They do not hold a curl. They will not exchange or give a refund because the item was on sale. I tried to leave a review on their website and they just keep deleting it. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM.

I recently purchased a pack of 20 inch extensions that are clip in, they are the worst extensions ive ever had. They are constantly nappy, they dont straighten properly with a straightner and they are super frizzy. I contacted their customer service team and it was a completely awful experience a waste of my time for sure. They offer nothing to benefit you for the purchase and given how expensive the extensions are its pretty sad a company has no sympathy for their poor quality of hair or customer service. Anyone looking for wicked clip ins try ***** I ordered from there after Bombay was useless for helping me. Bombay wouldnt even offer anything like discount, free shipping just nothing. ***** products are amazing and their customer service team reached out to me asap to help me unlike Bombay, they made me wait nearly 2 weeks to respond to my situation which is unacceptable. Ill never purchase from Bombay again!

I purchased the 5-in-1 Curling Wand for my daughter for a Christmas present. my order was purchased in December 2017, which she didn’t start using the curling iron until January 2018. The curling iron was used a handful of times. While she loves the product, it doesn’t work. The curling iron will no longer heat up. We tried contacting for a replacement wand and was told that we would have to pay for it because it is out of warranty. Bombay products are very expensive and should last more than 6 months. I have tried phoning (leaving multiple voice messages), sent multiple emails, and even used their online chat system. Which I was told that I had to talk with someone from the warranty claim and to email their support team at support@bombayhair.com. I have sent several email messages to them and NO ONE will get back to me. I was even notified in my chat that a representative would get in contact with me. to date no phone call or email from their representative. Very poor customer service. Again, Bombay products are very expensive. They should last more than 6 months. I have had a $30 curling iron from amazon that has lasted me for years. Unacceptable.

The hair is obviously not real at all. It has tons of black streaks throughout the Ash blonde hair, which is reality is buttery yellow and brassy!! I purchased the hair for an event, and was pressed for time to make a color change, and decided although the tester was yellow I could wash them in purple shampoo diluted water and have them ready to wear. So many professionals do the same thing!!!
Big mistake, they were shedding and falling apart after one wash. I gave them a deep conditioning, never blow dried them at all and let them air dry. I was gentle with bruising them. There was absolutely no reason for this to happen. I reached out to customer service, who were no help at all and never replied. I have not even wore them once. I’ve had them less then 2 weeks!! I cant believe the professionalism!! There is a reason they have no contact number, as they know people will complain. I am so so upset. I paid $170 for some effing synthetic mix hair. Hey I stumbled on this post and appreciate your honesty for pointing this out. I do not work for this company anymore and I just need to clear things up about my review (when I had blue hair). That video is what got me hired in the first place. They needed a YouTuber to update their YouTube channel – and they liked my videos – so I was hired to do this in fall of 2016. That review with my blue hair was authentic. To clear things up as of now: I don’t work there anymore and have nothing to do with these people. I do not support this company. Thanks for posting.

This is my first time trying Bombay tape in extensions. So far I’m not impressed. They feel thinner than ones I’ve used in the past. And they look like fake extensions, as in you can tell it’s not my real hair, it looks fake. The color looks fake and they’re not as soft and smooth as other ones I’ve tried. I’m not impressed so far. Also, the price was ridiculously high for extensions that aren’t that amazing.

I ordered ash blonde and platinum blonde tape in hair extensions. They are super yellow but you have to tone them to get the real blonde color they advertise. Be careful using purple shampoo that has oil of any kind because your tape in hair extensions will fall out. Bombay hair has no phone number you cannot speak to anyone and it takes weeks for them to reply to an email regardless of how they say it will take 24-48 hours. If you return an item you will not informed that it has arrived until a month later and they hold your money hostage. Hope this helps somebody.

I have not even wore them once. I’ve had them less then 2 weeks!! I cant believe the unprofessionalsm!! There is a reason they have no contact number, as they know people will complain. I am so so upset. I paid $170
DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY! The hair is obviously not real at all. It has tons of black streaks throughout the Ash blonde hair, which is reality is buttery yellow and brassy!! I purchased the hair for an event, and was pressed for time to make a

I wrote 3 reviews on the website and all 3 got taken down. Their service is horrible. In the last 2 years I’ve bought the 5-1 wand set twice because it breaks down after a year. I’ve had hair tools for much longer and paid much less for them. This product is horrible and so is the company’s service. Save your money.

So I ordered the 5in1 styling tool, I’d wanted it for ages and I found a voucher which made it a bit more reasonably priced. When it came it was faulty, I asked for an exchange and customer services said that I had to return the faulty ones but that they don’t provide returns labels. After stating I wasn’t willing to pay for return delivery of a broken product they said they would refund it once I had posted them and sent proof of postage (spoiler alert: they didn’t).
Well my replacement came and….. it was the wrong product, a much cheaper curling iron. I emailed customer services again and said this time I wanted a refund. They initially told me I couldn’t as I’d used a discount code, however when I opened a paypal dispute they changed their mind and said that I could. This time they sent me a returns label (don’t know where that ability magically appeared from) so that I could send them the incorrect product back. They said they would refund me completely once I showed them proof of postage.
So after I completed all of these steps I asked when I would get my refund, I got an email saying they had re-sent the product… to a house that I’d already told them I had moved out of…. and beside that point I was due a refund not another set of curlers!
I let them know I was escalating my paypal dispute at this point if I didn’t receive proof of refund as I only had a couple of days left to do so and I had no faith in them at this point…. they accused me of threatening them.
So now I have my money back through escalating to paypal and I’m down £4 from the original return postage that they’ve never refunded me.
Please don’t shop here, it’s really not worth dealing with the most incompetent customer service team I’ve ever spoken to.

A decent product is nothing without customer care. I purchased hair extensions, one of which arrived with a clip hanging off of it. I contacted Bombay Hair and they told me to just use a replacement clip (which is not the same as having the clips permanently attached, of course). So according to Bombay Hair, it’s okay for them to send faulty products to their customers, and expect their customers to use replacement parts on items straight out of the box. They would not offer a replacement so I even asked if it could be fixed, and they refused. Wow!

Will never order through Bombay hair again. I’ve only worn the extensions 5 days and they have been knotty and tangly since my hair dresser first put them in and and trimmed them. I have to brush them out before I go in place because it looks like a fucking cheap wig if I don’t. I spent almost $300 on these extensions, and after I treated them they with conditioning treatments and soothing balm, nothing has made a difference & the extensions feel worth $20. Customer service sucks ass.

Absolutely disgusting company. Will never ever purchase from them again. If you want to be treated like garbage go ahead. They treat customers very poorly with complaints and order issues. Will not refund money for missing items. Will not replace them either. Poor quality extensions that knot very easily and don’t hold curl.

This company’s hair has gone down in quality
The hair doesnt stay smothered for longer than a month now, when it used to stay silky for a few months , the clip ins are not even cut evenly. When you contact their customer service they just tell you thats how it is, with no support or apology or refund.
I will never buy from them again! and wouldn’t recommend anyone else , I am now looking for a good clip in hair extension company to order from , any advice is appreciated

I have worn tape-in bombay hair for the last 2 years and recently purchased a new set. I have been extremely satisfied with the quality and longevity of the hair. The hair does not tangle, it is thick from top to bottom, there is no coating on the hair, and the hair is distributed evenly along each weft. Shipping is extremely fast and pricing is excellent given how many grams are in each pack (50g per tape pack). I have also received great customer service anytime I’ve had a question or to colour match. I will continue to purchase and wear!

I forgot to add that I have never had an issue with stickyness of the tapes. My tapes have never fallen out. At first yes, they seem less sticky to the touch but once the tape is in it becomes very sticky. As a negative, these tapes are harder to and take longer to remove.

Excellent costumer service until you start to complain then you never hear back. Ordered my “virgin hair” tape in extensions. Had them installed by my hairdresser. Within 30 min. Tangling began and brushing every 15-20 minutes was needed. Messaged the company who reported they had never heard of this problem. Waste of $400 plus dollars. Going to put my old ones back in. Wasted money. I’m not sure where I’m going to find virgin tape in extensions. Used to get them from glam seamless but they no longer carry the virgin ones

Awful fake itchy hair. My friend recommended this here to me and this is the worst hair I have ever used. It totally feels completely synthetic, it’s shedding everywhere and I just got it put in today, it’s super itchy, bad texture. I will never buy again, at almost $200 a pack and for the hair to be this bad is unbelievable. The person installing my soul when I thought the hair was synthetic and asked me why I didn’t get human hair. So embarrassing

I had a sewn in weft done by my hairdresser. She ordered the hair for me which was the 2nd set of hair purchased thru Bombay. Well the first set wad nice, this second one was $450 and literally the most tangled, matted mess I have ever seen. Not right away but a few days in I noticed it and the smell they had was similar to cat pee and ammonia and no amount of washing got rid of it. I recently had them removed after less than 1 month of wear. Such a waste of money. The company never responded to my stylists emails, obviously they don’t care and only want the props thru paid endorsements. Save your money!!

I have been wearing hair extensions for many many years. I have tried every brand possible from online stores, to professional salon quality hair extensions. Now Iam back to online hair extensions because the sew in wefts has damaged my hair so much I use clip-in hair extensions now. I will say for the price and quality Bombay is at the top of my list. I tried them all..

Please do not buy this hair. I paid almost 300 and it only lasted about 2 weeks. Im so disappointed. It gets so dry once exposed to heat on a low setting, and tangles like crazy. Customer service did nothing to help. Total waste of money please look elsewhere!!!
